Spaten

Spaten brewery is one of Munich’s great traditional breweries, with brewing roots reaching back to 1397. Closely connected to the city’s beer history, the brewery helped shape the development of classic Munich lager culture and remains one of the most recognizable names in Bavarian beer.

The brewery is especially known for its role in creating the first Münchner Hell, which left the Spaten brewery on March 21, 1894. At a time when dark, sweet-malty beers dominated Munich, Spaten introduced a bright, bottom-fermented lager style that would become one of Bavaria’s most popular beer categories.
